Take action to expand protections for the Western Arctic

Urge Biden to finalize and strengthen protections for Western Arctic Special Areas

The Biden Administration took a historic and significant leap forward on climate, conservation, and the protection of sacred land by announcing new protections for more than 13 million acres of America’s Western Arctic. These new protections will safeguard subsistence hunting traditions crucial to Alaska Natives in a region home to polar bears, wolves, moose, one of the largest caribou herds in the world, and birds that travel from all seven continents to nest.

This suite of protections also unlocked a historic new opportunity through which the Biden Administration can protect even more “Special Areas,” a federal designation unique to the Western Arctic that recognizes and enhances protections for areas with significant subsistence, wildlife, recreational, historic, or scenic value. The Administration is seeking public input on how to update and expand protections in existing Special Areas and which new Special Areas to create.

The Conservation Lands Foundation has helped secure these Special Areas and, with your voice, we can show the Bureau of Land Management and Biden Administration there is strong public support for strengthening and expanding these protections. Add your voice today!
