Fight for Nature Conservation in the U.S.
Since January 20, 2025, when president Trump signed an executive order directing every agency to “revise” its environmental procedures, this administration has taken more than 40 significant actions that are reducing public oversight and weakening longstanding safeguards to make it easier to drill, mine, log, and build roads across America's public lands.
These include:
- Throwing out more than 80 percent of environmental review regulations.
- Illegally removing national monument protections and undermining the Antiquities Act.
- Weakening the Endangered Species Act and protections for sensitive wildlife across all federal public lands.
- Potentially stripping protections and management guidance for wilderness areas and wilderness quality lands - affecting at least 200 million acres of irreplaceable natural sanctuaries of biodiversity, cultural and wildlife resources, and unmatched havens for quiet, backcountry recreation.
- Repealing the Roadless Rule, opening America’s undeveloped forests and grasslands to development.
- Rescinding the Public Lands Rule, prioritizing industrialization above conservation and outdoor recreation across nearly 250 million acres.
- Initiating the sell off of the Western Arctic for industrial oil and gas development, imperiling essential wildlife habitats, migration corridors, and Indigenous ways of life in this extremely sensitive environment.
- Fast-tracking coal, mineral, and oil and gas development in protected places across the West, including, in the sacred Chaco Canyon landscape in New Mexico, and virtually eliminating public review and engagement.
These actions systematically reduce public oversight, weaken longstanding safeguards, and prioritize industrial development across America's public lands.
Make a powerful difference.
