Tell the Government to Stop Commercial Data Centers on Public Lands
The Department of the Interior, under the direction of the Trump administration, is rapidly accelerating the development of private data center proposals on public lands without meaningful public involvement or an adequate framework for fully assessing environmental and community impacts.
Commercial data centers could cause irreversible harm and serious consequences for local communities and watersheds, wildlife, and public health. Public lands should not be sacrificed to an unprecedented wave of industrial development without a national conversation about whether that development belongs there in the first place.
Placing a moratorium on new development for private data centers on public lands would give Tribal Nations, communities, lawmakers, and the public an opportunity to understand what is being proposed and to weigh in on whether commercial data centers are compatible with public land laws, purposes, and values. It would also allow for full examination of environmental impacts, cumulative demands on water and energy, and the consequences of transforming shared public lands into industrial sites.
Take action: Join us in telling the Interior Secretary, the Bureau of Land Management Director, and your members of Congress to place a moratorium on all commercial data center proposals on public lands.
