Take Action to Defend Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments
URGENT: President Trump gutted protections for Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments – AGAIN!
On July 13, 2026, President Trump announced he reduced the boundaries of Bears Ears National Monument and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument by a combined three million acres, which virtually eliminates them.
Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante are a part of a larger cultural landscape — an interconnected Indigenous homeland that has been stewarded by Native Americans since time immemorial. Tribal Nations led the effort to protect Bears Ears, while Tribal Nations, local communities, scientists, businesses, and others helped support lasting protections for both monuments.
Stripping protections for these national monuments puts Tribal cultural resources, habitats, animals, clean water, outdoor recreation access, and local economies and communities at immediate risk.
For Bears Ears, this action also undermines years of collaborative work between the Tribal Nations of the Bears Ears Commission and federal land managers to implement one of the nation's most innovative models of collaborative management.
Take action today by using our multi-step tool to sign the petition to President Trump letting him know you oppose shrinking these national monuments and to send an email to your members of Congress asking them to publicly oppose these actions.
