Take Action to Defend America's Wilderness
Comment Deadline is August 14, 2026
The Department of the Interior is currently conducting a sweeping review of its wilderness policies through five open comment periods across three key land management agencies: the Bureau of Land Management, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the National Park Service.
These policy reviews pose a severe threat to the foundational management guidance of almost 200 million acres of public lands - the irreplaceable natural sanctuaries of biodiversity, cultural and wildlife resources, and unmatched havens for quiet, backcountry recreation.
If these standards are weakened, America's wildest places and sensitive cultural sites will be left vulnerable to increased exploitation and degradation.
We have until August 14, 2026, to make our voices heard. Take action today to tell the Department of the Interior to uphold current management and guidance for America's wilderness and wilderness-quality lands.
By using our action tool, we will submit your comments to the five comment portals addressing the wilderness stewardship policies.
Here's how to make your comment count:
- Customize the sample letter in your own words. Agencies count identical comments as one and tend to weigh them less than unique comments.
- Name specific wilderness areas you have a connection with and why you believe protecting wild lands are important.
- Keep it clean and refrain from using profanity.
Thank you for helping to defend the enduring legacy of America's wild spaces.
