Wyoming’s Red Desert is one of the most wild, ecologically intact, and culturally significant landscapes in the American West. After years of public input and collaboration, the Bureau of Land Management finalized a balanced Resource Management Plan (RMP) in 2024 that protects migration corridors, Tribal cultural sites, recreational opportunities, and wildlife habitat–while still allowing for oil and gas development on roughly 70 percent of the planning area.

Now that plan is under threat. The Trump administration has proposed reopening and significantly weakening the Rock Springs RMP, which would undermine years of local involvement and put this irreplaceable landscape at risk.
