About Baltazar
Hernández
Baltazar Hernández (pronouns: he, him, él) is the Associate Program Director for Arizona and New Mexico. Baltazar is a bilingual public policy and sustainability professional who was born and raised in Chandler, Arizona. He brings over eight years of experience in policy analysis, stakeholder/community engagement, and program management across the public, academic, and nonprofit sectors.
In his previous role at The Nature Conservancy in Arizona, Baltazar led community-centered climate resilience programming, including programs that trained community residents on extreme heat preparedness and heat mitigation. Through partnerships with community-based organizations, environmental nonprofits, local and county governments, and university partners, he delivered an award-winning and bilingual program that equipped communities with practical tools to respond to urban climate challenges, including through nature-based solutions that increased tree canopy in Phoenix’s hottest neighborhoods.
Baltazar holds a Bachelor of Science in Public Policy from Arizona State University and a Master of Public Policy from the University of Michigan. He is a member of the Hispanic Conservation Leadership Council convened by HECHO (Hispanics Enjoying Camping, Hunting, and the Outdoors) and volunteers his time with local environmental organizations in the Phoenix area. This summer, he looks forward to cooling off at the Salt River.
