The Bureau of Land Management is being pressured to let the State of Utah build a four-lane highway through the heart of the Red Cliffs National Conservation Area (NCA), which exists to protect the threatened Mojave desert tortoise.
This would severely damage Red Cliffs NCA, reduce the public's access for recreation, and set a dangerous precedent for National Conservation Lands elsewhere in Utah and throughout the Country.
Add your voice and help us stop this by signing below.
We'll make sure that Trump's Interior Department hears your voice by delivering your comments to them, along with comments gathered by other organizations.
We'll also share them with elected officials who care about maintaining existing protections on public lands, and preserving the quality of life that many Western communities value and depend on.
If this highway is allowed it will:
- Bisect Red Cliffs NCA east to west with a four-lane highway
- Irrevocably damage habitat for the already threatened Mojave desert tortoise and 20 other species of sensitive wildlife
- Set a terrible national precedent that National Conservation Areas can be bulldozed and paved
- Threaten the quality of life that has led to St. George, Utah being one of the nation’s fastest-growing metro areas
- Put at risk the very recreational values that bring people from all over the country and the world to hike, bike, climb, horseback ride, hunt or enjoy breathtaking scenery in Red Cliffs NCA
If a highway is allowed through Red Cliffs, then it could happen to National Conservation Areas (NCAs) anywhere in the country.
That means places like Sloan Canyon and Red Rock Canyon NCAs in Nevada, McInnis Canyons NCA in Colorado, or San Pedro Riparian NCA in Arizona would be at risk. We can't let that happen, and your voice is crucial to help us stop it.
Thank you for taking a minute to take a stand.
"I oppose building new highways through the Red Cliffs National Conservation Area. Allowing this highway would severely damage Red Cliffs NCA, reduce the public's access for recreation, and set a dangerous precedent for National Conservation Lands elsewhere in Utah and throughout the country."

Protect our public lands! It would be a tragedy to fragment the RCDR. This land is protected. I stand with so many who don’t want this highway to be built.
-
A four-lane highway through Red-Cliff is unnecessary and completely incompatible with a National Conservation Area.
-
-
National Conservation Areas should remain just that.
-
Red Cliffs NCA is what makes Saint George so beautiful. Please do not allow this to happen.

Adding more man made materials to our nature is killing what makes Utah great.

F no , i will not stand for this
-
Do not destroy what makes this area so beautiful

Please please please don’t do it! I’m so happy out in the Red Cliffs NCA. Pease leave the peace and wonder of the wilderness there alone. Let everyone continue to find the beauty in land preserved from construction. Please.

The Red Cliffs are a beautiful part of Utah and should be preserved. Don’t destroy a beautiful piece of land just for a freeway that will add more polution.
